Appearance
The Czechoslovakian Wolfdog looks like a grey German Shepherd when it is young but the more it grows the more it starts to looks like a Wolf, and when it is fully grown-up people often mistakes it for being one.
The Wolfdog has a rectangular frame where the relation between height and length is 9:10. The topline is sloping away slightly. It has a long tail, usually with a black tip, hanging straight down when it’s not in an excited mood. The head and neck of a Wolfdog have a lot of muscles and sex should be unmistakable, as the female has less muscles and is slightly slimmer around the neck and head. The eyes of a Wolfdog are rather small, slanting and amber coloured, and the ears are triangular shaped, short and thin. The jaws are strong and a complete set of teeth consists of 42 teeth with different shapes and size.
Size
The size of a Wolfdog is above average when compared to other dogs and a male Wolfdog’s lowest height at withers is 65cm, and 60cm for a female. There is no limit for how big the wolfdogs are allowed to be and it is not uncommon that a male reaches over 70cm.
Weight
A Wolfdog is light but strong and a male with a height at withers of 65cm don’t need to weigh more than 26kg, and a female with a height at withers of 60cm doesn’t need to weigh more than 20kg.
Movement
As a Wolfdog is light footed and its steps are long, its movement is harmonious and natural. its reactions are quick.
Coat
The colour of the coat can vary from yellow-grey to silver-grey with a characteristic light mask .The fur is straight, very thick and has different lengths on different parts of the body. The thickest and longest hair are placed on the back to protect from bad weather and not to release heat energy in the winter, but is also used by the Wolfdog to signal how big they are in meney situations and when they feel threatened.
The summer coat is shorter and thinner, while the winter coat is longer and thicker. The coat consists of approximately 13000-16000 number of hair per 1cm2 depending on if its summer, winter or part of body. It’s coat can be compared to a German Shepherd’s, who onely has 1000-3360 per 1cm2 or a Siberian Husky who has around 1730-2160 per 1cm2, Wolfdog are there for well suited for colder climates, but if it is to be kept in a kennel yard in the winter it must be left with possibilities to seek shelter from weather and wind.
